This guide is intended for 2nd level perators. This guide includes detail instructions to configure an Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) instance with CommVault Galaxy software, register the database with RMAN Catalog and how to perform cold and hot backups with RMAN. The instructions for database restore and recovery will be covered by the RMAN CommVault Restore and Recovery User Guide.
CommVault Galaxy software is used for the RMAN backups for all 9i databases on IBM AIX machines. There are limitations with the software, and some of the limitations will be addressed on the recommendation section. DEG recommends these changes to be applied, and NPS will decide if these recommendations should be applied.
There are two copies of the backup tapes. The primary tape is kept in the library for 21 days. The Secondary copy is sent off-site for 7 days and only will be required in case of a disaster or if the on-site tape is bad. Except for disaster or if the primary tape is bad, then we will need to get the off-site tape back on-site; otherwise, all backup data will be vailable for restore at any time without waiting to be pickup from offsite location.
