ESG Lab Report:The DD200 Restorer

Data Domain is an early stage company based in Palo Alto, CA, founded in 2001. Data Domain  developed the DD200 Restorer to solve the major issues found today with backup and recovery using  traditional tape libraries. The DD200 is a storage appliance that utilizes a custom-built file system  architected for backup and recovery that runs on standard-based hardware and stores data on  inexpensive high-density ATA drives.

The DD200 Restorer is a Backup-to-Disk (B2D) solution that presents itself as an NFS file system, making  it non-disruptive to customers’ existing backup environments and that supports all major backup software  solutions. The DD200 provides unique and powerful functionality they call global compression, which  allows customers to retain more data on-site for a longer period of time, and offers a quantifiable and  compelling lower total cost of ownership. Additionally, the DD200 has been designed for backup and  recovery with an emphasis on data integrity and reliability.
