This article provides a brief description of recent advances in data storage hardware and how they affect DB2 backup and recovery and other database administration (DBA) procedures. It introduces some concepts that can improve the tasks of maintaining DB2 data integrity and improving DB2 data availability. It also highlights some of the challenges introduced when using new technology to conquer old deficiencies.
